LEV - Local Exhaust Ventilation

Local Exhaust Ventilation

Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems are a primary means of controlling employee exposure to airborne contaminants within the workplace. Properly designed and working LEV systems remove contaminants at source before they have an opportunity to disperse into the workplace atmosphere where they could be inhaled by employees.

LEV systems are often poorly maintained and seldom tested in accordance with current legislation.

AEC offer consultants who can provide a competent and independent examination of your LEV system in accordance with current health and safety legislation (i.e. COSHH Regulation 9).

COSHH Regulation 9 indicates that: Where engineering controls are provided to prevent exposure of employees to a substance hazardous to health, the employer shall ensure that thorough examinations and tests of those engineering controls are carried out;

LEV system examinations and tests will follow current procedural requirements as outlined in Health and Safety Executive (HSE) publications.

Wherever possible, five types of investigation / measurements are made on each system: smoke test; face velocity; capture velocity; transport velocity and static pressure.

On completion of the review of your LEV system AEC will provide a comprehensive report (including schematic plans, if required), detailing current legislation, test methods and system recommendations.
